CANCER101 volunteer projects


In 2009 CANCER101 plans to expand its resources to help those with any cancer, not just those with breast cancer. Get involved and help us meet our mission!

Donate your time and expertise from the comfort of your home anywhere in the U.S. or work with us in our office.  We have projects that offer a wide range of skills and time commitments. Name of project Spring cause marketing campaign, “Find a Reason to Celebrate”

Number of volunteers needed As many as possible!
Mission Raise 1.5 million dollars so that we can provide free cancer planners for people with any cancer.
Project details Invite brands to participate in our cause marketing campaign by requesting they give us a percent of their sales from May 1-June 15th.  This period of sales includes Mothers Day, Father’s Day, graduations and Survivors Day, thus the name, “Find a Reason to Celebrate.”
Complete instructions on this project will be provided to those volunteers interested in working on this project.
Skills needed Development/sales skills, articulate, excellent writing and computer skills
Time commitment As much time as you can give.

Name of project Cancer center project

Number of volunteers needed 20 volunteers, each to contact 20 cancer centers
Mission
  1. Raise money from the cancer centers to help defray the cost of shipping the planners. (note, the planners are free to the cancer centers)
  2. Request they post our logo and link as a resource on their Web site
  3. Find the contact at the hospital who would give away our planners to those with any cancer
Project details C101 will give every volunteer 20 cancer centers to call. We will provide the volunteers with a letter of request to e-mail to the Director of Marketing and invite them to support C101. We will also provide you with an excel sheet to fill in the contact names and contact information.
Complete instructions on this project will be provided to those volunteers interested in working on this project.
Skills needed Phone and e-mail skills. If you are uncomfortable asking the Marking Director for a donation to pay for our shipping costs, we will have another volunteer make those requests. If you don’t have e-mail skills, this is ok too! You can simply write your contact information on a piece of paper and fax it to us.
Time commitment One hour a day, over the course of one week

Name of project City guides for Los Angeles and San Francisco

Mission To provide a calendar of support groups, wellness classes and lectures for people with breast cancer in LA and SF
Project details We have compiled a list of local resources in those areas. We need a volunteer to :
  1. Review our list and update it and/or add new resources
  2. Call each location and introduce yourself and our organization
  3. Go to every Cancer center and advocacy organization’s Web site and data-enter their support groups, lectures and wellness classes onto our back-end
Skills needed Data entry. It’s really easy!!
Time commitment Only a web developer will be able to tell us.

Mission To raise money for CANCER101’s planner program
Project details Jump on board and chair the following for each event of for both events:
  • Procure corporate sponsors
  • Procure gift bags and auction items
  • Ticket sales
  • Journal sales
Skills needed Organization, leadership, excellent communication skills, able to delegate, follow-through, passionate about doing a good job
Time commitment As much as you are able to give. Minimum of two hours per week. More as we get closer to events.
Location You can work from your home or our office. Should make all committee meetings. Those locations may vary.

Mission Our mission is to help people get organized. Our printed planner is fantastic. We need to make our Web version more appealing and available – especially for young adults and computer savvy cancer patients. It needs flash to look a lot cooler.
